Prospero expects to be set free by the audience who he implores to applaud. This will be a sign of them releasing him from the island, granting him his freedom.

Explanation:

The character of Prospero is one of the main characters in William Shakespeare's "The Tempest". He had imprisoned Ariel and the other characters but by the end of the story, had them released.

The epilogue is his speech/ soliloquy telling the audience that just as he had imprisoned the others, he himself is also imprisoned on the stage by the audience. He mentioned that he had overthrown his charms and had forgiven and released those who had done injustice to him. And he implored them to release him by applauding, which he will take it as a sign of his freedom, ending the play with these words
