Explanation:

The Mayflower Compact was written and signed by the pilgrims in 1620 to   establish a Civil body politic and set a structure for self-government.

It stated equality for everyone in the group who could vote, and claimed the group itself as the root of political power in the area, under the authority of the King. When the colonies became independent, the Articles of Confederation took on the Mayflower Compact ideas about the power to make laws and elect leaders, as a first draft of the United States government.
