<em>"The Monk's Tale"</em> written by English poet Geoffrey Chaucer around 1387 is part of the collection of <em>"Tales of Caunterbury"</em>, and in this series The Monk defines tragedy, and particularly "the collapse of power"; akin to when someone powerful falls down to misery, arguing that wealth in the world can be an illusion, i.e. when he says: <em>"if fortune decides to flee, No man may stay her course or keep his hold"</em>.
