(a) A factor in any experiment is a variable (independent) that you can control as you study the results obtained while changing its conditions .This means that the levels of the variable are set by experimenter as you perform the experiment.A factor can have two or more levels.These levels when combined, they form treatments.A factor is controlled by setting it to different levels,two or more to enable the researcher introduce different values of the factor to observe the trend in the results.Hence, set a factor to levels is very important.
(b)Randomization is when participants in an experiment are chosen to prevent bias.When randomization is applied, the participating groups will be similar in that there will be no accidental bias due to unbalance criterion.Additionally, selection bias that could arise due to underrepresented group will be eliminated.
