Answer: y = 2 or 7

Step-by-step explanation:Copy and open the bracket

2y² + 5y +63 = (y + 7 )²

expand the right hand expression (y + 7 )², which now becomes

y² + 14y +49 , now equate the 2 together and arrange it into a quadratic structure

2y² + 5y +63 = y² + 14y + 49

2y² - y² + 5y - 14y +63 - 49 = 0

y² -9y + 14 = 0

Now, factorize the expression using grouping or any method

y² -7y - 2y + 14 = 0, considering two factors, when multiplied together gives +14, and when added together gives - 9

Considering the common factors ,it now becomes

y( y - 7) -2(y - 7) =0

(y - 2)(y - 7) = 0

To find the root of y,

when y - 7 = 0

y = 7, and when y- 2 =0, y = 2

Therefore, the solution of the equation is

y = 2, or 7.

Do the points A(1,3) B(4,2) C(-2,4) lie on the same line? Explain your answer. Show all work.
Jet001 [13]

We can see that

Slope\ of\ AB=Slope\ of\ BC=Slope\ of\ AC

The given points are on same line.

Further explanation:

There are two methods to find if the given points are on same line

  • The slope method: If the points are on same line the slopes of two pairs of points will be same
  • Area of triangle method

Given points are:

A(1,3) B(4,2) C(-2,4)

We will find the slope of AB, BC, and AC

So,

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

Slope\ of\ AB=\frac{2-3}{4-1} \\=-\frac{1}{3}

Slope\ of\ BC=\frac{4-2}{-2-4}\\ =\frac{2}{-6}\\=-\frac{1}{3}

Slope\ of\ AC= \frac{4-3}{-2-1} \\=-\frac{1}{3}

We can see that

Slope\ of\ AB=Slope\ of\ BC=Slope\ of\ AC

The given points are on same line.

Mr. Fat needs 20 minutes to eat a pound of cereal, while Mr. Thin needs 30 minutes. If they eat together, how long does it take
marishachu [46]
36 minutes.

(1/20)x+(1/30)x=1solve for x (x=0.8333333333......)
Considering they take the same times for all 3 pounds,
That would mean that since 1 pound takes 12 minutes, then 3 pounds take 36 minutes
