Explanation:

This type of fault, located in California, is called transform. Transform faults are found at transform plate boundaries. This means that those plates are moving one next to each other, or more precisely - horizontal. Areas with transform faults have frequent seismic activity.

Greatest risk of damage of an earthquakes has San Francisco. Reason for that lays in fact that city area is situated on the fault. Good proof for that risk in practice is devastating earthquake from 1906, when San Francisco was heavily damaged with thousands of fatalities. That was one of the greatest natural disasters in US history.

Why do most global ecosystems form broad latitudinal belts across the world?
Lostsunrise [7]

The fact that the global ecosystems form broad latitudinal belts is mostly because of climatic reasons. It works very simply, the shape of the Earth doesn't allow the sun to heat up the surface equally in every place, so on the equator and around it the sun heats up the Earth the most, as the latitude changes the sun rays become weaker and weaker because they fall at a smaller angle and are dispersing much more, this forms the different climatic regions on Earth thus creating different ecosystems with it, ecosystems that have their borders mostly on the lines of change in climate from one region to another, so we mostly have latitudinal belts of ecosystems.
