He later regretted his letter but thought the result was still better than if Nazi Germany had created it first.

The verified answer is wrong. I had this on an exam. The correct answer would be B.) After spurring U.S. efforts to build an atomic bomb,  Einstein worked to eliminate the arms race as a cause of war. The proof that I am correct is in the photo below.
