Jean-Jaques Rousseau (1712-1778) was a renown Swiss philosopher from the last part of the Enlightenment. His ideas inspired many leaders in the French Revolution. He thought that ethics was of the utmost importance in everything humans do. For him, freedom should be the dominant consideration of humanity. Jean-Jaques Rousseau believed that society corrupted the individual, so that is why the individual should always aspire to conduct in an ethical way.

This favored all western Europeans and created a drop in immigrations for the U.S. The Americans did not play any German music. Also, they wouldn’t allow the Americans to speak German.
