President Andrew Jackson was a person that many people either loved or hated. One of the reasons he gained a significant amount of loyal friends was due to the implementation of the spoils system. When he became president, Jackson gave federal jobs to a lot of his friends who helped him to win the election. The people who received the jobs were extremely loyal to Jackson. However, many people saw this appointment of friends to federal jobs they may not be qualified for as a gross abuse of executive power. Along with this, Jackson was known for having a bad temper and getting in numerous duels during his lifetime. This is what caused him to have such fierece enemies.
