Question 1 with 1 blank¿Sabes la respuesta? ¿ la respuesta? Question 2 with 1 blankLas chicas pueden divertirse. Las chicas dive
nirvana33 [79]

Answer:

1. ¿Sabes la respuesta?

¿Supiste la respuesta?

2. Las chicas pueden divertirse.

Las chicas pudieron divertirse.

3. ¿Conoces a los recién casados?

¿Conociste a los recién casados?

4. No puedo encontrar a Patricia.

No pude encontrar a Patricia.

Explanation:

These sentences should be transformed from present to past tense. This verbal form is in Spanish called the pretérito. Here's how you should do it.

1. ¿Sabes la respuesta?

The verb used here is saber. It is one of the most frequent verbs in Spanish and is - irregular! It has different bases for formation of different verbal tenses. The base we use to form the past tense is SUP-. And the endings we use are:

yo supE nosotros supIMOS

tú supISTE vosotros supISTEIS

él supO ellos supIERON

Of course, we choose the seond person singular: ¿Supiste la respuesta?

2. Las chicas pueden divertirse.

Another frequent and irregular verb in Spanish: poder which means to be able to. The O from the infinitive form becomes U and the base for the préterito leaves us with PUD-. Remember the endings:

yo pudE nosotros pudIMOS

tú pudISTE vosotros pudISTEIS

él pudO ellos pudIERON

Las chicas pudieron divertirse.

3. ¿Conoces a los recién casados?

The verb conocer means to know, or meet. It belongs to the second group of verbs in -ER and it has the base is the same for both the préterito and the present, CONOC-. The endings are the same as for the previous verbs with the exception of the third person singular:

yo conocÍ nosotros conocIMOS

tú conocISTE vosotros conocISTEIS

él conocIÓ ellos conocIERON

¿Conociste a los recién casados?

4. No puedo encontrar a Patricia.

And to revise, again the verb poder, but in different form. It is the first person singular, because the sentence translates as I cannot find Patricia. Here's another look at the conjugation of poder:

yo pudE nosotros pudIMOS

tú pudISTE vosotros pudISTEIS

él pudO ellos pudIERON

The correct form is yo pude, only negative, so it gives: No pude encontrar a Patricia.
