Chinese immigration has consisted of two waves,the first arriving in the 1850s and second from the late 1970 to the present.Beginning in the 1960s, significant policy changes in the United States and China opened a new chapter of Chinese migration.The number of chinese immigrants from mainland china doubled from 1980 to 2016.Most of the chinatowns were on the western side of USA.Arizona,California,Locke,Sacramento,Salinas,San Diego,San Francisco Bay Area,Colorado,Connecticut,Columbia,Hawaii,Illinois,Louisiana,Maine,Maryland,Massachusetts,Michigan,Missouri etc.Chinatowns were in the big cities of USA. As the migration trends toward returning to China, many Chinatowns, especially smaller ones like the one in Washington DC, begin to lose their initial mission. he earliest Chinatowns tended to be on the west coast while the newer ones are being built in lesser profile cities as opportunities shift. Historically, most Chinatowns started as enclaves of ethnic Chinese people.
