one simple machine famously used by leonardo was the pulley. the bulley works by redirecting downward force into upwards force using gravity on its side. Each pulley added makes the conversion of force take longer but also easier to use. pullys work by pulling objects closer together. if an object is stationary it will pull the other towards it. pullys can be used to lift extremely heavy objects as well as being used as a lifting mechanism.
