Answer: "Since Katherine proofread the recommendation report, you should finish the slide deck for the presentation" is a complex sentence.

Explanation:<u> A complex sentence is a sentence made up of an independent clause and a dependent clause</u>. While an independent clause can stand alone as a sentence, a dependent clause cannot as it does not present a complete idea. Moreover, unlike an independent clause, a dependent clause is introduced by a subordinating conjunction. In the sentence provided, "Since Katherine proofread the recommendation report"<u> is a depending clause because it cannot stand alone as a sentence and it has been introduced by the subordinating conjunction "since"</u>. On the other hand, "you should finish the slide deck for the presentation" <u>expresses a full idea</u>; therefore,<u> it is an independent clause</u>. In that way, as the sentence provided is made up of a dependent clause and an independent clause, it is a complex sentence.

Subject: Bad condition of roads

Sir:

I am writing to your good self to express my deep concern over the bad condition of roads due to which many accidents take place every year. A poor condition of roads is one of the major causes of road accidents in India. According to data issued on road accidents by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the total number of road accidents increased by 2.5 per cent from 4,89,400 in 2014 to 5,01,423 in 2015. The total number of persons killed in road accidents increased by 4.6 per cent from 1,39,671 in 2014 to 1,46,133 in 2015. Though not all accidents are caused by poor roads, however, poor roads play quite a significant role in these accidents.

This problem of poor roads is quite widespread in the nation. Especially during and after the monsoons the roads are badly damaged. In the cities, the drains get damaged. The coverings of the manholes are dislodged. Quite frequently these broken drains and uncovered manholes become the causes of the accidents.

These accidents can be stopped by making quality roads and timely repair of the broken roads, poor drainage system and ramshackle conditions of roads. The departments responsible for the maintenance of roads should act proactively and ensure road safety. Through the medium of your esteemed newspaper I appeal to the concerned authorities at the state and central government to look into the matter and take prompt action to address the problem.

Hamlet says, "Denmark’s a prison.”
charle [14.2K]

Answer:

This figurative language is a metaphor. Hamlet is comparing Denmark, meaning specifically the castle in Denmark where he is living, to a prison. Hamlet is saying this because he feels trapped and like all of his movements are being watched and analyzed. He feels he is being punished for being emotional about his father's death and scrutinized by everyone around him as one would be in a prison.
