Why would a government not be legitimate

History

A government wouldn't be legitimate if there is no consent of the governed and it can only be achieved through majority rule.

To have legitimacy in a government means that the government must have the majority of acceptance of authority from its citizens. Without this basic condition, a government collapses.

Democracy is an example of this because the government is legitimated from consent by the majority of the citizens.

In addition, there are four types of legitimate government: Communism, Constitutionalism, Democracy, Monarchy, and Fascism.

The ratification Americans debate before the U.S. Constitution:

The ratification of the constitution of the United States took place in the year 1787 and this was not favoured by the anti federalists and they were totally against it.

The ratification of the constitution of the United States according to them would lead to

1) threat to the liberties of the people because there was too much centralisation of power with the government.

2) the people who framed the constitution had a debate on the issue of slavery and wanted each slave to be counted as one whole person and the slave states should have power to vote.
