Parallelism is a figure of speech very useful when intending to emphasize and make more memorable a comparison or contrast between two or more ideas and to bring clarity and conciseness to these thoughts.

In the passage, Douglass uses parallelism with that same purpose: he repeats certain parts of speech (The nouns "justice, liberty, prosperity and independence" and the object pronouns "is yours, not mine"), he repeats words ("by you, not by me") and grammar structures ("You may rejoice, I must mourn"), in order to create contrast by highlighting the differences between his experiences and his audience's experiences.

What change, if any, should be made in sentence 1? A) Change suns' to sun's. B) Change heats to will heat. C) Change Earth's to
Strike441 [17]

Answer:

Your answer would be A.

Explanation:

You should change suns' to sun's. You should use the apostrophe to show possession. In order to show possession with a singular noun, you should add an apostrophe plus the letter -s. As you know, the sentence is referring to the sun, the star of our galaxy. Considering that the noun is singular (sun), the possession should be shown by adding the apostrophe and the letter -s to the noun (see 1).

1) The sun's energy heats the Earth's surface

When is the best time to check your writing for style and correctness?
lana66690 [7]
Hello :)

My answer would be, you should be constantly working on your style as you write. Whether that means cracking open the thesaurus or checking words in the dictionary- you should always be working on your style. If by correctness you mean punctuation and grammar, the best time to do that is after you have everything written. If you do it after, you’ll be able to nick-pick at every detail and improve whatever it is you’re writing.

Hope this helps >.
