Answer:

When Impressionism began to emerge in the 1800s, artists realized that they could concentrate on how to represent an image in an interesting way rather than merely in a realistic rendition of what was being viewed. Artists began to use different techniques to create light effects. They stopped blending smoothly and used short, broken brushstrokes to capture the way glimmering light shined on objects. Instead of using blacks and grays, dark tones were used by mixing complementary colors together. Artists began to avoid black entirely. They began painting everyday outdoor scenes that focused on changing light, movement, human experiences, and asymmetrical balance. This style of art is called Impressionism.

Although not generally accepted at first, many now consider it to be one of the most influential movements in art history. It broke from tradition and provided future generations with imagery to help people understand the everyday scenery and culture of Paris.

The second round of artists that followed this style were the post-Impressionists. Many of their techniques and subjects were the same as those of the Impressionists, but the artists started using heavier brushstrokes and focused less on how the subject matter was rendered. Often, the representations appeared slightly more abstract.
