3) Multiply the price of the item ($40) by the percent of the sales tax (8%).  Then add that to the price of the item to get the total.

=$40 * 8%
=40 * 0.08
=$3.20 tax

=$40 price of item + $3.20 tax
=$43.20 total

5) Multiply the number of students in the band last year (36) by the percentage  increased (125%).

=36 * 125%
=36 * 1.25
=45
