1. Denotation defines the literal meaning of a word whereas connotation is an idea or feeling that a word invokes.  “Slender” and “skinny”, have the same denotation, because both words mean thin. But they have different connotations: thin is a common term, it is neutral. In contrast “skinny” implies that it is thin in a negative sense.

2. A collective noun denotes a group of people, object, or ideas as a single unit. Words like group, herd and family are examples of collective nouns. Therefore colony – a settlement of emigrants - is a collective noun.

B is the correct answer.

3. As explained above, “band” describe a group of people as a unit as opposed to “mall” or “trumpet” that are considered separately and not as a group.

A. is the correct answer.

4. The clause “was four hours long” relates to “movie”. We use the relative pronoun THAT instead of who, whom in relative clauses to refer to animals and things, so A and B are NOT the answers. The relative clause “was four hours long” needs a pronoun that act as the subject, so THAT matches.

D is the correct answer.

Explanation:

I am at the sea

I can smell the water

As crazy as it seems

I hear the sound of the kids,

I see them make castles

With the same sand that's on my feets

This answer requires a personal poem. I have chosen the sea and wrote a short poem. Ideally, you should take it as an example and be able to write your own poem with the things you like the most from one of these places.
