By learning the specific words and icons in your "language community" it can help you communicate with your co-workers because it expands your communication range. If you end up speaking with someone who isn't very good at English then by being able to speak other languages you can help understand them. Also, in like computer engineering you have to know the icons or else you would have to take the time to learn what it is and it would just take up you and your co-workers time.
