1. The paragraph show that the lady who requested leave because of her wedding was rejected of leave, even if it was unpaid. We cannot see such practices in modern times and usually, employers prefer giving leave without pay.

2. The major contributor towards the household property is identified as the unfair and high prices of good and service. Specially, food.

3. We can see that workers are being treated with extreme unfairness and without any though of Humanity. Workers work nearly 14 and half an hours every day and if they got late at least a minute, a whole hours pay is cut from them. The rarity of jobs and their incapacity to leave work or take action against this harsh treatment show how helpless and poor the workers and the society were at the time.

4. It is disturbing that this  novel was recognized for something trivial such as the meat packing industry rather than the broad social issue it was addressing, Urban poverty. mainly because most of the time, poverty is understood in relation to the country side and poorly-developed villages and non-urban areas but this novel showcased the harsh treatment received by the immigrant workers.
