Qing dynasty restricted European merchants to a small trading outlet at Guangzhou but later they also created a policy that stated that China should adopt Western technology but keep its Confucian values and institutions.

Certain states will get more attention from presidential candidates than others. For example, a state with a large population will have a greater impact on the election than a state with a small population.
