<u>Best position</u> : Ask the patient to sit up and lean forward for the auscultation of heart sounds.

<u>Four anatomical sites :</u>

S1 (First Heart sound) : Auscultate the apex and tricuspid area.

S2 (Second heart sound ) : Auscultate aortic and pulmonary areas.

S3 (Third heart sound ) + S4( Fourth heart sound ) : At apex if apex is left sided and at left parasternal border if apex is right sided.

The first and second heart sounds are normal heart sounds which are heard at the apex and aortic and pulmonary areas.
