PLSSSSS I NEEEED HELPPPP Which lines from "The Bells" by Edgar Allan Poe contain onomatopoeia? Select three options. What a worl
Juliette [100K]

Answer:

The lines that contain onomatopoeia are:

How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,

From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.

To the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!

Explanation:

Onomatopoeia refers to words that represent a sound by imitating it. There are several verbs that come, originally, from imitating a sound, such as to buzz, to clang, to click, etc. Among such verbs, there are to tinkle, to jingle, and to chime, often associated with the sound made by bells. Those are precisely the words that appear in three of the lines in this excerpt of "The Bells". Therefore, the lines we must check are:

How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,

From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.

To the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!

The lottery is a tradition where 1 person from the society is murdered each year. How does this practice maintain social stabili
kifflom [539]

Answer:

This practice maintains social stability through tradition and ritual.

Explanation:

"The Lottery" is a short story by author Shirley Jackson. The inhabitants of a rural village have a lottery every year. The final person to have his or her name drawn is murdered by the other villagers, stoned to death.

No one knows why they still keep the lottery going. Some characters even mention that other places don't do it anymore. And there is only a hint as to why they do it - it seems to be some sort of human sacrifice for a good harvest. Why maintain it? After so many years, shouldn't people know that such things are just superstitions?

Well, that is the whole point. The lottery is maintained simply because it is a tradition. The ritual of gathering everyone and drawing a name is something they all learned from a young age. They also learned not to question it. In a way, this helps maintain social stability. The sense of respect they have for the lottery, as if it is something sacred, is helpful when it comes to create structure. Stability comes from structure, which comes from respect.

How does this poem resemble an Elizabethan sonnet?
den301095 [7]

Answer:

It contains exactly 14 lines.

Explanation:

This poem is written in free verse, and has no rhyme scheme, the only thing in common that it has with the Elizabethan sonnet, which has a strict structure and a rhyme scheme that goes like this:

ABAB CDCD EFEF GG.

As this poem has no rhyme scheme detectable, the only way that it resembles a Elizabethan sonnet is the fact that it has 14 lines, in this case, the format doesn´t allow you to see it but the whole:

"Like childre aling the graveled walks of the garden, Diego´s"

That is a whole line, but the format can´t keep it together.
