W Smith, a sole trader

Identification and Explanation of Highlighted Accounting Concepts and Treatment in the Final Accounts:

1. Economic Entity: The business (economic entity) is separate from the individual (W. Smith). Accounts are kept to ensure this separation of ownership from the business. This withdrawal is treated as Drawings, a reduction of capital (owner's equity) in the balance Sheet.

2. Consistency concept: This concept requires that an accounting estimate or principle is consistently applied. However, if there is a change in an accounting estimate, the effect of the change needs to be disclosed in the final accounts.

3. Going concern concept: A business is assumed to continue indefinitely in life. Therefore, assets and liabilities are stated at their cost or fair values. Where there is a contrary view, this must be disclosed and accounts be kept to reflect the revised view. Then, assets and liabilities will reflect market or disposal values.

4. Materiality concept: This concept requires that values in accounts be material. Though, materiality is a matter of judgement, a threshold can be established based on the value of the individual item to the value of the business. Will its disclosure or not affect decisions of a knowledgeable investor or analyst, is a consideration under the materiality concept. The office stationery can be expensed in the income statement if the amount involved is not material, even though, they will continue to be used in the business for more than a year. This somehow contradicts the concept of the matching principle.

5. Accrual Concept: The concept states that "Revenue is recognized when earned, and expenses are recognized when assets are consumed," and not when cash is received or paid. This unpaid electricity bill for £900 must be accrued in the income statement as an expense and treated as a liability in the balance sheet in line with the accrual concept.

Explanation:

These are the basic accounting concepts:

1. Accruals concept

2. Conservatism concept

3. Consistency concept

4. Economic entity concept

5. Going concern concept

6. Matching concept

7. Materiality concept

Zira Co. reports the following production budget for the next four months. April May June July Production (units) 455 570 560 54
soldier1979 [14.2K]

Answer:

Instructions are listed below.

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

The production budget for the next four months.

April= 455 units

May= 570 units

June= 560

July= 540 units

Each finished unit requires five pounds of raw materials.

The company wants to end each month with raw materials inventory equal to 30% of next month’s production needs.

Beginning raw materials inventory for April was 663 pounds. Assume direct materials cost $4 per pound.

Materials required= Production for the month + ending inventory - beginning inventory

April (In pounds):

Production for the month= 455*5= 2,275

Ending inventory= 570*0.30= 171*5= 855

Beginning inventory= (63)

Total pounds= 3,067

Total cost= 3,067*4= $12,268

May (in pounds):

Production for the month= 570*5= 2,850

Ending inventory= 560*0.30= 168*5= 840

Beginning inventory= (855)

Total pounds= 2,835

Total cost= 2,835*4= $11,340

June (in pounds):

Production for the month= 560*5= 2,800

Ending inventory= 540*0.30= 162*5= 810

Beginning inventory= (840)

Total pounds= 2,770

Total cost= $11,080

Gilkey Corporation began the year with retained earnings of $465,000. During the year, the company issued $630,000 of common sto
Goshia [24]

Answer:

The company's revenue for the year is $1,950,000

Explanation:

In this question, we apply the retained earning equation which is shown below:

Ending retained earning balance = Beginning retained earning balance + net income - dividend paid

$495,000 = $465,000 + net income - $120,000

So, the net income = $150,000

Now we know that the net income = Revenue - expenses

So, $150,000 = Revenue - $1,800,000

So, the revenue = $1,950,000

Andrej [43]

A limitation of bond ratings is that they focus exclusively on default risk.

When investing, the bond rating represents the creditworthiness of a corporate or government bond. It's not the same as a person's creditworthiness. Ratings are published by rating agencies and used by investment professionals to assess the likelihood of debt repayment.

Bond Rating is a character-based credit rating system used to assess bond quality and creditworthiness. Investment grade bonds are rated by Standard & Poor's from AAA to BBB- and by Moody's from Aaa to Baa3. Junk bonds have a lower rating.
