Why do many people find it so challenging to separate opinions from facts?

because if your opinion is say you like dogs more than cats and that is a opinion and say a fact is a cat is softer than a dog im not sure if that is true its an example but you like dogs more than cats you might think it is a opinion because you like dogs more but  it is a fact so i hope this helped sorry i know im bad at explaining.
