The tone in “Barbara Frietchie” is one of admiration. The speaker clearly admires the stand that Frietchie takes when supporting the Union in front of the Confederate troops. Words such as bravest, loyal, and honor show that the speaker admires Barbara Frietchie’s courage. The poem also has a patriotic tone.
