In today's world there are a few details about the situation that would have been different. First of all, Creon's proclamation that Antigone's brother is not to be buried would have to go through so many different channels before becoming something that is actually a law that could be broken. Then, when Antigone disobeys those orders, she would be put on trial by a jury of her peers and judged that way. Creon would not have absolute power to make laws and punish those who break them so severely. Especially a crime so light as throwing a bit of dirt over a body would not be punished so harshly.

Answer:

Comparing and contrasting Antigone's situation then to today's world, her case would be handled in a completely different manner. First of all, the death penalty is only legal in a handful of states - and especially wouldn't be used for such a minor trespass. Secondly, Creon wouldn't have full control over what happened to Antigone; he would only have a minuscule amount of persuasion. No matter the offense, Antigone would still have rights. Lastly, it's incredibly possible that Creon wouldn't have even been able to make the burying of Antigone's brother illegal. In order for a bill to pass as a law, it has to go through several channels of approval.

Klio2033 [76]

Answer:

B. To support a claim about how quickly New York's population increased.

Explanation:

In the given passage about the surge of immigrants in America, the author includes how most of the immigrants came through the Ellis Island Immigration Station. This New York harbor would be the main point of entry for most of the<em> "newcomers"</em>.

By including this information about the station, the author is providing support to the claim that New York City is <em>"overwhelmed"</em> by the surge in the immigrants who settled on the place they landed- New York. So, the city became more crowded, although it was already crowded, with<em> "various types of streetcars vying for space on the roads."</em> This added to the increased population of the city.

Thus, the correct answer is option B.

In analyzing the figurative and connotative languages which ways do you decide they are alike?
Lyrx [107]

Figurative language uses figures of speech to provide more complex and intensified meaning to the subjects it describes. Connotative language uses cultural or emotional references that are shared and understood by a group of people sharing the same cultural markers in order describe the subject of such language and associate a positive or negative perception of it.

They are similar in that they both avoid using direct explicit, literal language to describe the subjects they are referring to and prefer to use oblique references to it.
