Russian citizenry receives most of the information from the <em>state controlled media both by means of the Television and the Internet</em>. Media that portrays alternative opinions is heavily criticized and apposed in Russian official media.

Many citizens perceive such outlets as Western propaganda machines that have political goal of undermining Russian status of a great political power. At the same time, the <em>vast majority of Russian citizens do not know any foreign language and have never left the country</em>. Thus, they do not have additional information channels like Reddit or simply thoughts from friends from abroad, which would promote critical thinking and more educated opinions.
