Tcecarenko [31]

Answer:

The central idea of the speech that is most supported by this excerpt is:

D. The Nez Percé people want the new settlers to better understand them.

Explanation:

Firstly, the speaker has addressed how some people in the audience misunderstand Native Americans:

<em>Some of you think an Indian is like a wild animal.</em>

Of course, a human being is not like a wild animal. And that is what the speaker intends to show. In order to do so, he/she will tell the audience about the Nez Percé people:

<em>I will tell you all about our people, and then you can judge whether an Indian is a man or not.</em>

<u>The purpose is to have the audience, the new settlers, better understand Native Americans. By telling them about his/her people, the speaker expects them to see Native Americans from a different, maybe kinder, more empathetic and humane perspective. As we know, throughout history, several colonizing nations used civilization as an excuse to subjugate peoples around the world. They would claim the peoples they were killing, enslaving and forcing their culture onto needed to be civilized, even if forcefully.</u>

Which of the following does NOT belong to the group based on its mode
victus00 [196]

Complete Question:

Which of the following does NOT belong to the group based on its mode of reproduction.

Group of answer choices.

A. Butterfly

B.Frog

C. Dog

D. Mosquito

Answer:

C. Dog

Explanation:

The mode of reproduction of a dog is different from the other living organisms listed above because it is a mammal. Mammals carry their foetus in their womb for a specific period of time before the offspring is then delivered.

Generally, mammals experience a gestation period and it is typically between 58 to 68 days for dogs. This gestation period refers to the period between when fertilization of the egg cells occur and when the mammalian organism gives birth.

Also, unlike the insects and reptiles such as frog, butterfly, or mosquitoes, mammals breastfeed their offsprings.

In the Lesson Activity “Puritan Literature” from the Colonial Literature tutorial, you read two works: As Weary Pilgrim, Now at
Anika [276]

These two texts represent the views that Puritans held regarding life, death and religion. Anne Bradstreet was one of the earliest poets in America, and through her writing, we can appreciate the thought that was common during this time period. In this poem, Bradstreet presents a positive view of death. She thinks of death as a relief from life, and believes that the person who dies is happy to be able to rest silently and peacefully. She says: <em>"As weary pilgrim, now at rest,/Hugs with delight his silent nest." </em>Moreover, she wishes that she will eventually experience this too, as this will mean the end of her pain and worries: <em>"This body shall in silence sleep/Mine eyes no more shall ever weep/No fainting fits shall me assaile/nor grinding paines my body fraile."</em>

On the other hand, Jonathan Edwards has a much more negative view in his text "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Edwards sees God as a vengeful and strict being. He believes he is interested in punishing people for their misdeeds, which leads him to believe that death is something to be feared, as it will lead people to their final judgement and thus their eternal punishment. He tells us that <em>"when that due time, or appointed time comes, their foot shall slide. Then they shall be left to fall, as they are inclined by their own weight. God will not hold them up in these slippery places any longer, but will let them go; and then, at that very instant, they shall fall into destruction." </em>Although Edwards shares many Puritan ideas with Bradstreet, his view of religion is a much more negative one.
