In lateral gene transfer, genes are ______.

Biology
1 answer:
Gekata [30.6K]3 years ago

Answer:

c. moved from one species to another

Explanation:

During lateral gene transfer, one or more genes from one mature, independent organism are transferred to another. Here, the donor and recipient organisms may belong to different species. Lateral gene transfer in prokaryotes occurs by mechanisms such as transformation, conjugation, and transduction. For example, the genes for antibiotic resistance have been spread in the species of bacteria by lateral gene transfer.

Select the correct statement about plant life cycles.
vagabundo [1.1K]

The right answer is A.

Meiosis is an important process in many organisms:

In angiosperms, plants with flowers, meiosis occurs for the production of cells of pollen grains (gametes, haploid cells).

In animals, meiosis is important because it is the mechanism of gametogenesis that produces eggs (oogenesis) and sperm (spermatogenesis).

In the fungi, meiosis produces spores, which by mitosis will give a haploid generation.

What is the role of glucose in catabolite repression? What is the role of glucose in catabolite repression?
Ierofanga [76]

Answer:

It decreases the levels of cAMP in the cell, repressing transcription from the lac operon.

Explanation:

When glucose is absent, cAMP serves as coactivator binds to CRP, the catabolite gene activator protein. The CRP-cAMP complex binds to the site near the lac promoter and stimulates the expression of the operon by RNA polymerase many folds.

Catabolite repression refers to inhibition of the synthesis of enzymes of lactose catabolism when glucose is present as an energy source. In the presence of glucose, synthesis of cAMP is inhibited resulting in its lower cellular concentration. The lower cAMP levels do not allow the binding of cAMP and CRP. The result is reduced expressed of lac operon.

How are convection current in the mantle and in the oceans similar? How are they different?
Vanyuwa [196]

Hello,

Convection currents in the mantle and in the ocean are similar because they both are responsible for the shaping the Earth's surface. Two forces are behind the movement of Earth's huge land masses. Those forces are convection and gravity.

Convection describes the movement of gasses or liquids due to different temperatures. The convection currents just beneath Earth's crust flow very slowly, causing movement in the plates above them. These currents are different with the fact that they produce different plate movements. Ridge push occurs from the convection currents in the ocean. These occur at mid-ocean ridges, which are elevated higher than the rest of the ocean floor. In contrary, convection causes material in the mantle to flow. Due to combined action of convection currents and gravity, Earth's plates are in constant motion.

The angle of Earth's tilt has changed throughout Earth's history and is still changing today. If Earth's tilt were to decrease
olganol [36]

Answer:

The world climate would drastically change.

Explanation:

  • First off, both poles would have rapid expansion, with the freezing of more water near the poles.
  • Many species of trees and plants would die out in certain areas, since they tend to be in their ideal locations, so the change in climate will make the northern parts of many habitats destroyed.
  • Deserts would expand and the average temperature would rise.
  • Also, many animals would also die out, because of the change in their environments.
  • Conifers would shift southward, causing many forests / parts of forests to turn into wastelands, causing the earth's oxygen production to decrease.
