The Divine Comedy was written by Dante Alighieri at the beginning of the 14th century. It is the most important creation of its author and one of the fundamental works of the transition from medieval (theocentric) to Renaissance (anthropocentric) thinking. It is considered the masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the summits of universal literature. Dante summarizes in it all the extensive knowledge accumulated over centuries, from the ancient classics to the medieval world; his religious faith and his moral and philosophical convictions. The style of the work has a rich language full of symbols and frequent references to historical figures and ancient mythology.
