Why is it useful for historians to craft historical narratives

They craft historical narratives to not only present analytical data about historical events, but also include understandings on why something happened and how it affected the future. They also want to show how dependent the history of the world is between countries and that it's not just "boxes" where you place historical facts and all is neat and tidy.
