The sentence that best describes one effect of the poet's use of metaphor in this excerpt is "Here the future, fabled bird that has migrated away from America, nests, and breeds, and sings, common as nay sparrow".

The future is being compared with a bird, more specifically with the nay sparrow, the first part of this excerpt doesn't show metaphor it has the use of descriptive writing.

Which word from the paragraph helps the reader understand the meaning of the underlined word?
devlian [24]
Answer: D

It should be contradict. The sentence "As much as he tried to contradict the evidence, it was clear he was the thief" gives more clarity and emphasis to the previous sentence of "he tried to deny that the backpack filled with stolen jewelry found beside his car was his."

How does jem break the remaining code of childhood
lisov135 [29]
Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird relates that, upon seeing Dill under the bed, Jen “rose and broke the remaining code of our childhood” which i believe is the code of no “snitching” by telling Atticus. To Scout this makes Jem a “traitor” but this was an act of responsibility that was necessary for Jem’s maturation toward adulthood.
