Mohandas Karamanchad Gandhi was the most outstanding leader of the Indian independence movement against the British Raj. He practiced non-violent resistance and civil disobedience as a pacifist way to fight the colonial rule. Thanks to a large extent to his work, India achieved its independence from the British in 1947.

Jomo Kenyatta was a Kenyan politician, the first Kenyan citizen to hold the title of Prime Minister of his country, and he is considered the founding father of Kenya. During the times of the colony, he worked as a journalist and was the president of the Kenyan African Union, a political party that fought against the British rule. He was imprisoned by the British rulers in 1953 and was liberated in 1961. In 1963 he was elected Prime Minister and one year later the independence of Kenya was declared.
