Number 2 is mucus because phlegm is another word for mucus

cavernous = large and dark space

In the word cavernous, you can see the word cavern and cave. A cave is a large opening that is usually dark depending on how far back you climb or walk into it. Even though storm drain would indicate water, the word cavernous has nothing to do with water. It also has nothing to do with animals. And while it is creepy to reach into a dark space, cavernous does not mean creepy.

phlegm = mucus

While many of the other options could technically be correct if you were basing it solely on the sentence and not the word phlegm. However, phlegm is mucus, so this is your only answer.

When examining the word parts, what conclusion can you draw about the word “unknown”? If you take away the prefix “un-“, the roo
Alinara [238K]

The correct answer is the last option: If you take away the suffix –n and the prefix un-, the root word is “know”.

Prefixes and suffixes are sets of letters that are added at the beginning (prefix) or end of a word (suffix). They are not words by themselves, but they do change the words' meanings or categories.

In this case, the root is know. The suffix -n is used to change the word's category from verb (know) to noun (known). While, the prefix un- is used to mean NOT. As a result the meaning of the word UNKOWN would be not known or familiar.
