"Civil Disobedience," written by Thoreau argues that the government act unfairly. So, people must do something according to what is said by their conscience rather than obey the law which in its implementation is often unfair.

EXPLANATION

Henry David Thoreau is known for his essay entitled "Civil Disobedience". Thoreau states that a person is obliged to break the law if his conscience says that the law is unfair. "Breaking the law means that you provide a better life for yourself" (Thoreau, P. 18)

He is different from other Americans who fully believe in the law. However, Thoreau did not necessarily encourage people to become criminals. Thoreau said that a criminal is a person who violates the law and will not be responsible for his crime. He just advises someone not to obey the unfair laws, so that everyone can realize that, he is not obeying the law because the law is not fair.

So, someone must be prepared to accept the consequences that occur because of actions that do not comply with the law. Thoreau assured that people must be willing to go to jail if they want to make changes to the unfair laws. Thoreau went to prison not merely for not paying his taxes, but because he believed that the government was using the money for things that were not right.

This is a way that according to Henry Thoreau can change laws that are considered unfair. So the case will be lifted, people will be aware, and a revolution/reform will occur.

Answer:

Taken from the ending part of the short story "The Black cat" by Edgar Allen Poe, the lines tell of the alcoholic protagonist's happiness in finding that the cat responsible for the incidental murder of his wife is nowhere to be seen in his house anymore.

Explanation:

Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Black Cat" tells the story of an unnamed protagonist who is an alcoholic. His drunken act of killing his pet cat Pluto and then later on even his accidental murder of his wife leads to the situation he is in the start of he story- convicted to death.

The given excerpt is form the ending part of the story where he had successfully walled in his wife's corpse. He could't find the cat, he second pet cat, who had been the initial cause of the act. The lines show just how relieved he was to see that he could no longer find "<em>the monster</em>" in is house. But with this admission, he seems to be implying that he was free of the moral obligations in he society in general. This speech gave him he all clear in the murderous act, but which will in fact, return to haunt him and bring him to justice.
