Answer:

They demonstrate Sinbad's respectability and his generosity toward the porter.

Explanation:

In this passage, Sinbad's respectability and generosity are obvious from the way he is being described by the speaker. He tells us that Sinbad is magnificent, and that his is a noble company. However, the speaker also tells us that Sinbad was generous, as he invited the porter to sit next to him, poured him some wine and asked him his name and occupation. Therefore, these phrases demonstrate Sinbad's respectability and generosity.

In “Borders,” by Thomas King, the mother’s refusal to declare either American or Canadian citizenship is best explained by her c
liraira [26]
<span>In this case I believe the mother's pride is a characteristic that too many people have lost to "fit in" one way or another. When the Canadian border guard says, "you have to be American or Canadian" expresses how you can only be A or B, while the diversity that exists both in Canada and the U.S. is ignored. The trials she faced for standing up for what was right for her, emphasizing her heritage as Blackfoot, are minimal to what has been faced in the past. In the sense that her pride delayed the trip to Salt Lake City, yes it hindered her, but in reality it was her own personal victory. She is able to pass through the border by giving the same reply to the question of citizenship, which demonstrates how something that seemed to be so crucial (being Canadian or American), can be waved when you realize unimportant it truly is. However, winning one small battle is not like winning the war against cultural discrimination and injustice, yet this taught her son to be proud of whom he is. In the end, I believe her pride was necessary to show how sticking to your morals can bring about a drastic change, no matter how small.</span>

Answer:

I think it's C) "It creates tension by moving fron the slower pace of the description to the faster pace of Bob's dialogue, which suggests an uneasiness on Bob's part."

Because even though I only read this part of the passage just now, instead of the full story, I can tell the description of either character, wasn't too detailed. Not to mention the pacing did start out normally, but it felt as though Bob chimed in a little too quickly.

I hope this answer satisfies you. Also please let me know if it's right or not :)

4. Which of the following best describes what the speaker sees in the "days ahead"? (Lines 11-14)
gtnhenbr [62]

The option which best describes what the speaker sees in the "days ahead" is:

A. the fall of America.

This question refers to the poem "America" by Jamaican-American author <u>Claude McKay</u>, more specifically to lines 11 to 14, in which the speaker addresses the fall of America:

<em>"Darkly I gaze into the </em><em>days ahead</em><em>,</em>

<em>And see her might and granite wonders there,</em>

<em>Beneath the touch of Time's unerring hand,</em>

<em>Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand."</em>

  • What the speaker means is that he sees the fall of America in "the days ahead." Throughout the poem, the speaker talks of his bittersweet relationship with America. His feelings are somewhere between love and hate or resentment.
  • Although he can see America's wonders, beauty, and potential, he can also see its flaws - the prejudice, the corruption.
  • <u>In conclusion</u>, the speaker believes America's fate is a bad one. In the future, the country will fall.

LenKa [72]
Active voice is when the subject performs the action(s) stated by the verb; whereas, passive voice is when the subject is acted upon by the verb. In this case, option C, is the correct one.
The fireworks are the subject of the sentence and they "light the night sky", resulting in active voice.
