According to the theory of localism, state and local governments should have been best able to deal with the economic crisis.

Localism consists on a variety of political philosophies which prioritize the local. In genereal terms, localism supports local production and consumption of goods, local control of government, and promotion of local history, local culture and local identity. Localism is considered the opposite to regionalism and centralized government, with its opposite being found in the unitary state.
