1. A polynomial means it has more than one term.
   a. has 4 terms
   b. has 1 term (not a POLYnomial)
   c. has 3 terms
   d. has 2 terms
2. The first word in a polynomial description tells the degree (max amount of exponents) of the expression, and the second word tells how many terms it has.
   a. This answer means it's maxed exponent is to the fourth power, which it's not. (WRONG)
   b. This answer means that it has a max exponent to the third power, which is true, and it also says it has three terms, which is also true. (CORRECT)
3. You must combine like terms in this polynomial.
=> 14x^2 - 6x^2 =8x^2
=> 5x + 2x = 7x
=> -8
   d. This answer combines all the terms correctly.
4. To simplify this equation, you must first distribute the negative to all of the second equation.
(4x^2 -3x+2) + (-2x^2-5x+7)
Now, combine like terms.
=>4x^2 - 2x^2 = 2x^2
=>-3x - 5x = -8x
=>2 + 7 = 9
   d. This answer simplifies it correctly

How do I graph the parabola?
scoundrel [369]
First of all, find a program or a calculator that will give you the answer. Then you'll know how to make your table. I recommend Desmos. I have inserted the final graph for you.

Make up a table for this graph. Put the lowest point as the central entry in your graph.

x      y
-4
-3
-2
-1
0
Now fill in the y values.

x       y
-4      1
-3       -3.5
-2        -5
-1       -3.5
0         1

You can use the outline of the parabola and then mark the outline with the points in the table.

Ad libitum [116K]
16 red cars and 12 black cars. He put half of each colour in each box. Therefore he would put 8 red and 6 black in each box. 8 red + 6 black is 14. Therefore he would have 14 cars in each box.

How do you solve these equations? I don't want you to answer all of them, just tell me how to solve each type of equation on the
miss Akunina [59]

Answer:

8. Identify the common denominator; express each fraction using that denominator; combine the numerators of those rewritten fractions and express the result over the common denominator. Factor out any common factors from numerator and denominator in your result. (It's exactly the same set of instructions that apply for completely numerical fractions.)

9. As with numerical fractions, multiply the numerator by the inverse of the denominator; cancel common factors from numerator and denominator.

10. The method often recommended is to multiply the equation by a common denominator to eliminate the fractions. Then solve in the usual way. Check all answers. If one of the answers makes your multiplier (common denominator) be zero, it is extraneous. (10a cannot have extraneous solutions; 10b might)

Step-by-step explanation:

For a couple of these, it is helpful to remember that (a-b) = -(b-a).

<h3>8d.</h3>

\dfrac{5}{x+2}+\dfrac{25-x}{x^2-3x-10}=\dfrac{5(x-5)}{(x+2)(x-5)}+\dfrac{25-x}{(x+2)(x-5)}\\\\=\dfrac{5x-25+25-x}{(x+2)(x-5)}=\dfrac{4x}{x^2-3x-10}

___

<h3>9b.</h3>

\displaystyle\frac{\left(\frac{x}{x-2}\right)}{\left(\frac{2x}{2-x}\right)}=\frac{x}{x-2}\cdot\frac{-(x-2)}{2x}=\frac{-x(x-2)}{2x(x-2)}=-\frac{1}{2}

___

<h3>10b.</h3>

\dfrac{3}{x-1}+\dfrac{6}{x^2-3x+2}=2\\\\\dfrac{3(x-2)}{(x-1)(x-2)}+\dfrac{6}{(x-1)(x-2)}=\dfrac{2(x-1)(x-2)}{(x-1)(x-2)}\\\\3x-6+6=2(x^2-3x+2) \qquad\text{multiply by the denominator}\\\\2x^2-9x+4=0 \qquad\text{subtract 3x}\\\\(2x-1)(x-4)=0 \qquad\text{factor; x=1/2, x=4}

Neither solution makes any denominator be zero, so both are good solutions.
