Even though "Animal Farm" criticizes Stalinist Russia, many of the flaws it points out can be noticed everywhere. We are constantly told we are all equal, that all human beings deserve to be treated with fairness in an unprejudiced manner. But, let's face it, some are "more equal than others".
As a woman, I've been through several moments when sexism was used to diminish me. I've been told plenty of times that I wouldn't understand something related to cars or to measuring houses simply because I was not a man. Still, I am more equal than a friend of mine, who is not only a woman, but a black woman. She was telling me the other day of the times she was followed around in department stores. Someone from the staff would watch her every move, afraid she would steal something. As I am white, that has never happened to me. It brought me to the sad realization that equality is still a utopia.

It is said that even if a mother loose her love towards her child a child should not lose his/ her honor towards her. Likewise we must respect our country no matter what the circumstances are. We all are indebted towards our country because it is where we are born & brought up. Every individual has a different way to express his/ her feeling of patriotism towards his/ her country. A true patriot tries to contribute his best for the growth and development of his country. For instance, a social reformer is said to be a patriot in the real sense.

In chapter 26, when Scout tries to talk to Jem about Miss Gates she mentions the courthouse. Jem grabs Scout and tells her never to mention that courthouse to him again. Jem is still very upset about what happened to Tom Robinson. He believed that the jury would find Tom innocent because Atticus proved that he did not hurt Mayella. Jem's innocent outlook on life was stolen from him that day and he has yet to deal with it emotionally. Atticus tells Scout, "don't let Jem get you down."
