The communist countries tend to mostly produce food.

Explanation:

The communist countries, such as North Korea and the former USSR, have economy that is focused on self-sustaining. This puts these countries in a situation where they are closed to the majority of the world, so they exist on what they are able to produce, or maybe few of their allies. The central government is in charge of the planning for the economy, and the basis is always around the food production, as it is the most important thing in order for the country to survive.

So as stated, the main objective was always to produce food, and everything else comes after that. Because of this, the communist countries tend to have huge percentage of the population engaged in agriculture. Unfortunately, the planning for the agricultural production of food was often bad, and way to often there was lack of food in these countries, leading even to death from starvation of thousands and even millions of people.

Countries that have been practicing this apart from North Korea and USSR were:

  • Maoist China
  • Cuba
  • Albania
  • Vietnam
