The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that racial segregation in the education system and violated the 14th amendment which protects American citizens from being denied of equal protection under the law. 

It overturned Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) which stated separate but equal.

In addition, because they provided a steady supply of drinking water.


Moreover, goods and people could be transported easily

Finally, River valleys not only have water, they also often have a broad, flat floodplain that is readily adapted to agriculture.
