The brief electrical charge that travels down the axon of a neuron is called the action potential.

Explanation:

An action potential is an electrical nerve impulse arising in a neuron due to the difference of electrical charges (due to the electrically charged ions) that pass across the plasma membrane of the nerve cells.

During a resting potential, the neuron gets ready to transmit a signal where there are more positive charges outside a nerve cell compared to its inside.

A nerve impulse arises when a reversal of electrical charges happens which is the action potential. Once a chemical signal is received, it opens the sodium ion channels. Positive ions flow in and charge the cell positively more than outside.

This reversal of electric charges leads to passage of signal as electric current and travels down the axon.

What event triggers the opening of the gastroesophageal sphincter?
Helga [31]

Peristalsis in the Esophagus event triggers the opening of the gastroesophageal sphincter.

<u>Explanation:</u>

  • In the esophagus, there are two types of peristalsis occurs.The first one is a "primary peristaltic wave" occurs through which bolus enters esophagus during swallowing.
  • This "wave pushes the bolus down esophagus", into stomach in a wave lasting about 8–9 seconds.
  • The esophageal sphincter in the lower region is separated by both sympathetic and parasymphathetic nerves.
  • The pathways of vagal are a major for the relaxation of reflex of LES and this occurs in LES relaxations.

10.0 g of table salt, NaCl, is dissolved in water to a total volume of 125.0 mL. What is the resulting molar concentration of th
marysya [2.9K]

Taking into account the definition of molarity, the molar concentration of the table salt is 1.368 \frac{moles}{liters}.

<h3>Definition of molarity</h3>

Molar concentration or molarity is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution and indicates the number of moles of solute that are dissolved in a given volume.

The molarity of a solution is calculated by dividing the moles of solute by the volume of the solution:

molarity=\frac{number of moles}{volume}

Molarity is expressed in units \frac{moles}{liters}.

<h3>Molar concentration of the table salt</h3>

In this case, you have:

  • number of moles= 10 g×\frac{1 mole}{58.45 g}= 0.171 moles [being 58.45\frac{g}{mole} the molar mass of NaCl]
  • volume= 125 mL= 0.125 L [being 1000 mL= 1 L]

Replacing in the definition of molarity:

molarity=\frac{0.171 moles}{0.125 L}

Solving:

<u><em>molarity= 1.368 </em></u>\frac{moles}{liters}

Finally, the molar concentration of the table salt is 1.368 \frac{moles}{liters}.
