Pros of child labor--children are a cheap labor source, they work jobs specific to small details, they help to provide money for the family unit, and they provide taxes instead of any cost to the government.

Cons of child labor--it reduces the lifespan, reduced education rate through the country. Outlawing child labor would cost families money and with public education costs the government money.

After analyzing the costs and benefits, I would pass the bill that ends child labor. Economically, the state of our country lies in the hands of these children. If they are not educated now, they will have difficulties advancing and helping society. Children need to be able to socially interact with other children. They also need to grow in a healthy lifestyle. Working in factories does not provide an interactive and healthy lifestyle. Politically, it seems to make sense to support those with money to help ensure my reelection. However, if this bill helps the greater good of society, then perhaps I could gain a larger support base.

Alisiya [41]
Strikes were not supported by the government--in 1894 the Pullman Strike was shut down by the Cleveland administration by use of the army. Strikes were disrupting the countries production and the government was not willing to support the action. Because strikes and unions were seen as one they hurt the union efforts.

Strikes were seen as a anarchist or communist movement--many strikes became violent. Extreme people in the groups used bombings, beatings, killings as a part of the strikes leading to bad reputations for unions. The Haymarket Square Riot began as a strike in Chicago and ended with the execution of leadership marking the unions as extreme.
