There have been many changes in the sub-Saharan region where the Aksum Kingdom once thrived. The most obvious change is the name, now Ethiopia, but there is much more. The major exports of the Aksum Kingdom were crystal, brass, copper, frankincense, myrrh, gold, and ivory. The major export of Ethiopia is coffee. Although Christianity has remained in Ethiopia from the time of the kingdom of Aksum, some Ethiopians are Muslim. Finally, a major change of the region is the language. Rhode Island founder Roger Williams believed in religious toleration.
Williams (1603-1683) founded the Rhode Island colony after being banished from Massachusetts in 1636 because of his views. He advocated keeping church and state separate. Rhode Island became a safe place for various religious dissenters and minorities to find a place to exist peacefully -- Baptists, Quakers, Jews and other religious minorities. Years later, when colonial America became the United States of America and the US Constitution was being written, Roger Williams idea of maintaining a “wall of separation” between church and state influenced the framers of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The Civil Rights action of the "March on Washington" included thousands of non-African Americans. The march took place on August 27, 1963 when thousands flocked to Washington and the next day on August 28, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have a dream" speech.
