In the crisis of confidence speech, He hoped to tell the public about the cause of the current problems facing the country. The country had economic challenges and issues in the energy sector. He then related these issues with moral and religious issues of the people being the cause of the problems facing the country.

The citizens lost confidence in him because he was trading blames instead of making attempts to fix it.This was why it was poorly received by the American public.
