This is a very heart touching poem which describes the pain of not being able to be with a person whom you love the most. In the first stanza, the narrator states that he was the one who was wounded but the lover acted as if it was her.
The second stanza depicts how despite giving the chance, the person whom the narrator loved didn’t showed a slightest emotion. And that was when the speaker realized that it wasn’t meant to be.
The third stanza illustrates how after a painful realization the narrator bid a goodbye to his lover, but despite that he kept thinking of both of them being together. But unfortunately nothing turned out the way the speaker thought would be.
The last stanza shows the pain and suffering of the narrator. It shows that all this while the narrator was blinded by love and was unable to realize that the lies behind those kind words.
