At the beginning of the year, a scientist measured the temperature at the North Pole. It was -33.6°F. Six months later, another scientist measured the temperature at the South Pole. It was -80.6°F. How much more warmer was the temperature at the North Pole then at the South Pole?

That is a very mean temperature (-80 F). The coldest I've been in is - 56 and I can tell you it was most uncomfortable. Nothing keeps the cold out.

Equation

Difference =  Temp North pole - Temp South pole.

Difference = - 33.6 - (- 80.6)

Difference = -33.6 + 80.6

Difference = 47 degrees.

So -33.6 is 47 degrees warmer than -80.6
