Answer:

A thesis statement is all of the following except:

 • A direct quotation, paraphrase or summary

Explanation:

The thesis statement of an essay is what lets the reader know what the author's main claim is. Throughout, the rest of the essay each paragraph will hold a direct connection to the thesis, in order to support the claim. A reader should be able to understand the essay's scope, purpose, and direction, when reading the thesis statement. On the other hand, in the conclusion paragraph, the thesis needs to be restated. Therefore, in a way a thesis is a conclusion that the writer has reached about a specific topic. Throughout the essay, the writer will explain why he or she reached that conclusion. Finally, it is able to let the reader know the contents of the essay. Since a thesis statement aims to show the writer's stand on a given topic, it cannot be a direct quotation, paraphrase or summary. These things could be used as supportive evidence.

3. Suham never understands the new lesson.
Change to passive voice
kvasek [131]

The sentence can be changed into the passive voice as "The new lesson is never understood by Suham," transforming the object into the new subject.

What is passive voice?

Passive voice is the type of structure we use when we wish to emphasize the receiver of an action instead of its performer. It opposes, so to speak, the active voice. In the passive voice, the subject of the sentence is the receiver whereas the agent is the performer. In the active voice, there is no agent, and the subject is the performer. Take a look below:

 • I washed the curtains. (active)
 • The curtains were washed by me. (passive)

To transform the sentence given in the question into the passive voice, we must transform the subject into the agent, and the object into the new subject. Therefore, we would have:

 • The new lesson is never understood by Suham.

It is our conclusion that our sentence is effectively written in the passive voice.
