Throughout, the rest of the essay each paragraph will hold a direct connection to the thesis, in order to support the claim. A reader should be able to understand the essay's scope, purpose, and direction, when reading the thesis statement. On the other hand, in the conclusion paragraph, the thesis needs to be restated. Therefore, in a way a thesis is a conclusion that the writer has reached about a specific topic. Throughout the essay, the writer will explain why he or she reached that conclusion. Finally, it is able to let the reader know the contents of the essay. Since a thesis statement aims to show the writer's stand on a given topic, it cannot be a direct quotation, paraphrase or summary. These things could be used as supportive evidence.
