In The Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx hypothesized that capitalism would fail if workers revolted and took over the economic system. They would then change this to socialism, and then it would become communism. This was due to excessive tensions between socio-economic classes and with the working class ultimately taking over, as Marx did not believe capitalism would be able to work within the bounds of society.

I would say that the spread of democracy led to the industrial revolution because it enabled everyone to start their own businesses, thus establishing a capitalistic society whose economy was governed by industrialists.

Sweden did not partake in ww2 but they continued trade with the Germans, Italy joined the war because they sought out land and colonies, Germany wanted to undo what the treaty of Versailles did and japan wanted to rule the pacific. The United States sided on both wars with the Entente who helped France and Russia fend off against Austria-Hungary and Germany. The United States joined after the Sinking of the Lusitania.
